The Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards Program is the first step toward becoming a certified firefighter in the State of Florida.
Before you can enroll in the fire academy, you must complete the following state-approved pre-requisite courses.
These courses provide the foundational knowledge and skills required for success in th efire academy and a career in the fire service.

PRE-REQUISITE COURSES
FFP1000 Intro to Fire Science
Intro to Fire Science satisfies the pre-requisite requirement for the Firefighter Minimum Standards Program and for the Fire Science Associate’s Degree at some Florida colleges. This course has been approved by the Bureau of Fire Standards and Training.

Dress Code: Embers Edge student uniform shirt, dark navy colored 5.11 tactical pants, black steel-toe boots and well groomed./clean shave. Mustache allowed, no other facial hair.
First Responder/ Emergency Medical Responder
Emergency Medical Responder/First Responders is a pre-requisite course for the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program and a requirement to take the State of Florida Firefighter Certification Examination. Students will earn their BLS certification through the American Red Cross (includes CPR).
Required Materials: Emergency Medical Response digital textbook included with course purchase, analog watch, stethoscope.

Embers Edge student uniform shirt, required for students enrolled in our Intro to Fire and EMR/First Responder course.
