FFP1000 Intro to Fire Science is a traditional/instructor-led course. Introduction to Fire Science is a pre-requisite course for the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program and for the Fire Science Associate’s Degree at some Florida colleges.

Course Description:
This course provides an overview of fire protection and emergency services; career opportunities in fire protection and related fields; culture and history of emergency services; fire loss analysis; organization and function of public and private fire protection services; fire departments as part of local government; laws and regulations affecting the fire service; fire service nomenclature; specific fire protection functions; basic fire chemistry and physics; introduction to fire protection systems; introduction to strategy and tactics; and life safety initiatives.

Dress Code/Expectations:
Intro to Fire Science is a pre-requisite course for the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program. All hours are mandatory. Every student who participates in this course is required to come to class in proper attire (Embers Edge student uniform shirt, dark navy colored 5.11 tactical pants with a belt, black steel-toe boots, and well-groomed). Tardiness, improper attire, and disrespectfulness are prohibited, no exceptions. These expectations are preparation for the transition into the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program.
