Emergency Medical Responder/First Responder is a pre-requisite course for the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program and a requirement to take the State of Florida Firefighter Certification Examination.

Course Description:
The Emergency Medical Response program provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as an emergency medical responder (EMR) to help sustain life, reduce pain and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until more advanced medical personnel take over. This instructor-led course is designed to meet or exceed National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards and Emergency Medical Responder Instructional Guidelines.
Required Materials:
- Textbook: Emergency Medical Response digital textbook included with course purchase
- Stethoscope and Analog Watch (student provided)
Dress Code/Expectations:
First Responder is a pre-requisite course for the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program and a requirement to take the State of Florida Firefighter Certification Examination. All hours are mandatory. Every student who participates in this course is required to come to class in proper attire (Embers Edge student uniform shirt, dark navy colored 5.11 tactical pants with a belt, black steel-toe boots, and well-groomed). Tardiness, improper attire, and disrespectfulness are prohibited, no exceptions. These expectations are preparation for the transition into the Fire Fighter Minimum Standards Program.
The Emergency Medical Responder/First Responder Course is approved by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
