Florida Fire Investigator Requirements

To qualify for certification as a Fire Investigator, here are some of the state requirements:

  • Be a certified firefighter, certified law enforcement officer, law enforcement crime scene technician (as evidenced by employment verification), or certified firesafety inspector. 
  • Satisfy the program requirement consisting of a minimum of 360 hours of training. (See below for courses offered by Embers Edge.)
  • Complete the Fire Investigator Curriculum.
    • ATPC 407 Arson Investigations
    • ATPC2630 Latent Investigations
    • ATPC2610 Origin and Cause
    • ATPC2111 Fire Chemistry
    • ATPC 1510 Private Fire Protection Systems 1
    • ATPC2120 Building Construction for the Fire Service
  • Complete the required task book.
  • Pass a state written examination by 70% or higher.
